Submitting Your Building Permit application

ARCH Drafting Company is not a licensed BCIN designer (yet).
Until then, we support homeowners by preparing high-quality permit drawings that you can submit directly to your city. This is 100% legal — here’s how it works:

How it works

You, the Homeowner, Sign Schedule 1

  • Under the Ontario Building Code (Div C, 3.2.4.1), homeowners can act as their own designer — as long as you’re designing for your own house, not someone else’s.
  • When you submit your permit application, you’ll fill out Schedule 1: Designer Information and check the box that says:
  • ☑ The design work is exempt from the registration and qualification requirements of the Building Code. Basis: “Owner acting on their own behalf under Div C, 3.2.4.1(1)(d)”

What We Do

  • We prepare your full drawing set: site plan, floor plans, elevations, and more
  • We ensure it follows Ontario Building Code and local zoning
  • If needed, we coordinate with a licensed structural engineer to review and stamp drawings (you pay them directly)

What We Don’t Do (Yet)

  • We don’t sign or submit Schedule 1
  • We don’t take legal responsibility for your permit
  • We’re not a BCIN-certified designer — but we’re working toward it
